Sudafed¨ - Leading the way in decongestants sales

Sudafed is the UK's number one selling Decongestant brand with value sales of £23M. The product range is the most comprehensive in the category spanning P and GSL in a variety of formats.

Whilst Decongestants account for 12% of total Winter Health unit sales (17.5M packs), they over-perform in value sales contributing a 19% value share which makes them a very profitable segment for the trade.
Year to date the decongestant market is growing at 5%. Sudafed continues to perform as the number one selling brand with a value share of 32% - 11 share points ahead of the nearest competitor Vicks. Over the last 12 months Sudafed was purchased by approximately 3M households across the UK for effective relief from congestion.

Winter Season Marketing Investment
This winter Sudafed will benefit from a £5 million multimedia advertising campaign. This will include new TV copy, outdoor and press advertising across the season. The campaign will position Sudafed as an all-encompassing decongestant expert encouraging mild to moderate sufferers, in addition to current loyalists, to use Sudafed to treat their congestion related symptoms.

Kelly Marcham, Senior Product Manager for Sudafed comments: "Products in the Sudafed range are designed to treat the root cause of congestion and are suitable for any congestion related symptoms, from a stuffy nose to more severe sinus pressure and pain. With a comprehensive marketing campaign providing Sudafed with a strong presence throughout the season, we are looking forward to further increasing our share of the market this winter."

The Truth About Congestion
Consumers are often unaware that sinus pressure or pain and a blocked nose are both actually caused by the same thing - congestion, just in different places. When you have a cold the blood vessels in the lining of your nose swell up due to infection. This makes the airways smaller thereby making it harder to breathe which causes that blocked up feeling. Sometimes this infection can spread up the nasal cavity to the sinuses causing symptoms such as pressure through to throbbing head pain.

Something For Everyone
Sudafed is a range of products which treat the cause of the congestion, whether it occurs in your nose or sinuses. Sudafed contains active ingredients which help reduce the swelling and therefore expand your nasal or sinus passages, effectively relieving a variety of symptoms from mild stuffiness through to pressure and pain.
