Daioni moves up a league with Premiership deal

A Welsh flavoured-milk producing company is at the top of the league table following a recent supply deal signed with one of the UK's most renowned football clubs. The two season contract sees Trioni Ltd provide its organic flavoured milk range - Daioni - to academy and youth players at Chelsea FC's football academy.

"Milk can be described as the perfect recovery drink. Numerous, recent scientific studies have now described the benefits of consuming milk before and after training sessions," comments Nick Broad, Chelsea FC's club nutritionist. "As a great tasting, organic milk drink, Daioni milkshakes provide our academy players with a convenient way of helping their muscles recover after demanding training sessions and matches whilst also meeting the clean, whole foods nutritional philosophy of Chelsea FC."

The co-founder and managing director of Trioni Ltd, Laurence Harris says: "All of us here at Daioni headquarters, including the farm staff, are delighted to have been approached by such a high profile club as Chelsea FC to supply our Daioni range of healthy drinks to their Academy.

"Healthy food and drink is now being recognised as playing an important role in all walks of life. This endorsement by the Chelsea FC Academy is not only good news for all of us in this particular supply chain, but also for those involved in trying to persuade consumers of all ages about the value of correct diets."

The Daioni range was launched by the True Taste award-winning farming business Trioni in 2003 as an alternative to the fizzy sugary drinks generally available for children. The drinks, available in four flavours - chocolate, strawberry, banana, and cranberry and raspberry - are low in fat and sugar with no artificial colours or preservatives. Deemed the ideal refreshment for top sportspeople, the brand also counts Tottenham Hotspur football club, the Welsh Rugby Union and several top rugby clubs among its fans, while another Premiership team, Bolton Wanderers has also expressed an interest in supplying the drinks to its players.

"Trioni's deal with Chelsea FC is yet another example of the entrepreneurship of Welsh producers and the high esteem in which our products are held across all industry and business sectors," says Minister for Rural Affairs, Elin Jones. "We have a proud sporting tradition in Wales and I am delighted Daioni is helping to nourish young sporting talent."

Initially trialled in schools in Pembrokeshire, Daioni is now available across the UK as well as in Dubai, Eire, Greece, Malta, Cyprus and Australia, and was named best children's drink in the Excellence in Food & Drinks Awards run by Caterer and Hotelkeeper magazine.

The True Taste of Wales Awards was founded by the Welsh Assembly Government in 2002 to recognise and reward quality and innovation in Welsh food and drink.
