Students Have Designs On MEMEME

MEMEME has announced the winners of its ground-breaking competition, which gave budding, young designers at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan), the chance to take the cosmetics world by storm.

The competition, launched in March was open to first year students studying the combined BA (hons) degree course, Fashion and Brand Promotion and urged them to be as creative and flamboyant as they wished in creating an in-store, visual merchandising design.

Carolyn Gray was the lucky winner, who beat off stiff competition from 23 fellow students to claim first prize which includes a two-week work experience placement at the Vivalis Head office in Lancashire, where MEMEME is formulated and produced. Francesca Bell was awarded second place and Bijan Azar and Thomas Hopkins came joint runners up in third place.

Entrees were assessed by an expert panel of judges including MEMEME Senior Brand Manager, Sally-Anne Perrin, MEMEME Make-up Artist, Cheryl Roberts and McCann Erickson PR Account Manager, Rowena Fay, who presented all four winners with certificates and MEMEME goodie bags at the university.
MEMEME Senior Brand Manager, Sally-Anne Perrin says: "I was astonished at the professional standard of work presented to us. Carolyn's designs followed a clear thought process - from attracting the consumer's interest, taking them into store to encouraging repeat purchase. She did extensive research and showed tremendous enthusiasm for the brand which made her a clear winner."

Cheryl Roberts added: "I would like to congratulate all the students who took part and thank them for all the effort they put in to this project. It certainly made our job as judges very difficult."

Sally-Anne concluded: "We launched with UCLan as we are based in Lancashire and are keen to support local education. Due to its success, we are looking to roll the competition out on an annual, even national basis."

Paresh Parmar, Fashion and Brand Promotion Course Leader at UCLan said: "The retail design world can often be very competitive. It's great that MEMEME can offer this type of incentive and really give young hopefuls a boost."

Catherine Beneduce, Fashion and Brand Promotion Lecturer added: "It is a fantastic opportunity for the students to work with such a young and vibrant brand. The knowledge and industry based experience they have gained will prove invaluable in the future."
