Wing Yip 'tops out' in style at Cricklewood

A traditional topping out ceremony was held at Wing Yip's Cricklewood store on Wednesday December 5th to mark the completion of the striking Oriental roof.

Torrential rain and gale force winds seriously threatened to dampen the occasion, but as Mr Wing Yip prepared to make the symbolic gesture, the clouds parted and the sun shone on the assembled guests. Mr Wing Yip was lifted in a cherry picker to perform the ceremonial task of putting the last of the hand-made Chinese tiles in place.

The event was attended and celebrated by many of Mr Wing Yip's family and friends, dignitaries from the Chinese embassy and members of the construction team from Hertfordshire based HG Construction.

On conducting the ceremony, Mr Wing Yip commented: "We are extremely proud of this major development project. This occasion was a perfect opportunity to mark this important milestone in the construction of this magnificent building and bring together all parties involved to help celebrate our fantastic achievement."

Wing Yip's new look superstore and warehouse is part of a redevelopment project currently estimated at £15m. The new look Cricklewood superstore is home to an extensive range of goods, including a whole aisle dedicated to different varieties of Oriental rice. A large fresh fish counter takes pride of place at the rear of the main store offering a wide variety of produce including lobster, crab, mussels, squid, monk fish, conger eel and salmon.

In addition to the vast range of Chinese produce available, Wing Yip's new Cricklewood store also supplies a selection of Japanese, Filipino, Korean, Thai and other Far Eastern products for the more discerning food enthusiast.

Currently in progress is the construction of the Wing Yip business centre which will eventually house a restaurant and new bakery/cafeteria facility offering freshly baked snacks, as well as 12 business units which will serve the Oriental and local community.

A stand-alone office building, China House, is also being built at the front of the site with 20,000 sq ft of banking and office space spread over four floors. The exciting development will be completed in March 2008 following which Wing Yip will start work on its new Nottingham superstore together with restaurant, banking and other business units.
