Cucumber condom - Not!
Last year on BBC 2 Dragons Den Theo Paphitis exclaimed on national TV that Roark McMaster had invented a condom for a cucumber. He was not far off the mark.
A year on and a fresh invigorating re-design now turns the Q-Top into a multi-purpose kitchen gadget. Not only can you use it as a method of preserving your cuke or lemon, you can also use it as a bottle stopper, and as a gripping device to help loosen screw top beverage and small jar lids.
 So this year in the Den when serial optimist Roark McMaster took another metaphoric smack in the face, what did he have to say?
"It's all about providing solutions for customers. We have done enough research to substantiate that a lot of people are sick and tired of soggy cling film and loose foil when it comes to sticking cucumbers back in the fridge. Will this product make someone a millionaire? Probably not. Yet it does have the potential to provide value- and through this value provide steady revenue through sales. We see success as progressive steps. This is why we have several products in our offering."
And what about this year's product Roark took into the Den, the Mac-Strap? "The Mac-Strap is a solar charging sash designed for people that spend time outdoors. This could be trekkers, campers, soldiers, outdoor workers, and even festival goers. It collects solar energy while the user is on the go, rather than having to remain in a fixed location. We have just had an enquiry for 10,000 pieces from a potential German customer- so the jury is still out at the moment."
Q-Top, Mac-Strap - where does it all end? "We have several products behind these. One we recently launched called Aerowalkers is a gentle foot therapy for toning muscles, improving muscle density, aiding good circulation, and minimising the risk of DVT.
"Our ultimate success will come from our ability to collaborate and provide useful solutions."
